Visiting the address montgomerie dubai is like entering a parallel universe. It is set in the middle of Emirates Hills, a scarily Stepford Wives 'living' community, sort of in the middle of nowhere. You drive and you drive through non-signposted avenues of massive villas in various stages of construction until you reach large, unmarked gates. And then you realize you are there.

The hotel looks lovely from the outside, but the lobby is dull and unwelcoming, and the staff have an indifference we haven't noticed in other hotels. The Angsana Spa is lovely in a peaceful, Zen-like way, with treatments and massages to suit even the most stressed-out guest.

Bedrooms are extremely comfortable, with dark brown being the dominant colour throughout, accented with splashes of red and an abundance of leather. There are masculine, and practical, king-size beds, as well as plenty of pillows, large flat-panel TVs, comfortable leather chairs, large bathrooms with a bathtub and walk-in shower and an abundance of toiletries.

The rooms either overlook the courtyard or the golf course, for which you pay more. There are also three suites.

Three restaurants are located in the hotel: The Academy, a sportsthemed eatery and lounge area, serving pub grub and showing all major international sporting events; Bunkers Restaurant, which is accessible directly off the golf course overlooking the 18th hole; and the main restaurant in the hotel, Nineteen, a fine-dining venue with an open kitchen, a grill menu, live music and a wine list with 250-plus vintages.

Monty Cristo's Cigar Lounge is a throwback to an era when men got up from the table after dinner to enjoy a drink and a cigar with the boys and left the little ladies to sit and talk. There is a lovely pool, a decent gym and of course a stunning golf course - AED 595 for guests, AED 795 for non-guests. If you are coming to Dubai to play golf, this is a great hotel.
